November 13, 2006By: Mairead Johnson
Kiva.org President Premal Shah today presented a workshop at the Global Microcredit Summit titled "Raising Debt Capital Over the Internet". This workshop detailed for delegates the way Kiva.org has leveraged the power of the internet to raise soft, affordable debt capital for microfinance institutions.
The Global Microcredit Summit has been an invaluable opportunity for Kiva.org staff to meet with delegates from microfinance institutions around the world and other prominent figures in the industry, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof. Muhammad Yunus. We are incredibly excited about the many contacts that havebeen made sharing ideas and exploring ways of working together to reach more of the world's poor with affordable credit. Ultimately, it has been most exciting to meet in person some of Kiva.org's current Field Partners, and representatives of microfinance institutions across the globe who may be future Kiva Field Partners.
