A loan helped a lady printer open her own brick and mortar letterpress print shop.

Madelyn's story

I was an ICU nurse on a travel assignment in California when I took an adult ed class on letterpress printing. I fell in love immediately with the process, the smell, the paper, and the ink. I call myself a "stationery addict" because I can't help but make beautiful things. I moved back to Rochester, New York, and continued learning everything about letterpress printing. I am a self-taught graphic designer. Last winter, we purchased an old abandoned building in the city of Rochester, and we have been slowly fixing it up to get my five antique printing presses inside. I have saved three presses from going to scrap yards. My presses date back to 1890, and each has been restored with love. I'd like to increase the services I could offer bridal clients by investing in a gold foil machine and finishing up the construction of my building. I want to be "the lady printer" in Rochester, NY offering bridal clients a boutique space to come in and learn about the history of letterpress printing and how I can create something custom and beautiful for their special day. Wedding Invitations are the first glimpse that friends and family get into the vision of a couple's big day, and I can create that vision and bring it to life on my antique presses.

This loan is special because:

It supports a female entrepreneur in expanding their business.
